But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. Matthew 6:6
The trouble with me is that sometimes when I pray I leave the door open just a tiny crack. Then in the moments that are meant for only the heavenly Father, little distractions flutter through that tiny crack. Like seeing a lovely butterfly, suddenly my mind leaps and rushes off. The butterfly soon disappears and once I have left that Holy meeting with God it is doubly difficult to return.
But on those better days when I tarry, God comes He longs for us to hear His voice and to know Him but He comes only in secret when our secret place is all for Him.
He spoke to Elijah in His secret place outside the cave
He spoke to Moses in the secret place in the cleft of the Rock
He spoke to David in the secret place with his flock
He spoke to in a vision in John’s secret place on the Island of Patmos
And He will speak today to us if we will close our doors and wait for Him. He will come and show us our way if we will linger for that hour. Then, when He is ready He will open the door and send us out to a day that He has blessed and claimed as His own!
Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
That calls me from a world of care,
And bids me at my Father’s throne
Make all my wants and wishes known. William Walford
