The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field. Matthew 13:44
I was remembering this week a day 40 years ago when I worked with my friends putting up hay. Because I was the smallest, my job was to ride on the hay wagon and cross-stack the bales as they were thrown at me from both sides. Once the wagon had been packed high, I got the seat of honor up on the top. Then as we road on to the barn, I loved looking down at the tiny flowers hidden in the field and breathing in the aroma of the newly baled hay. God’s kingdom is in many ways just the same. Like the tiny flowers, It is hidden everywhere but seen by few. Its sweetness fills the air but to breath it in means entering in to the work of His harvest.
